Kia ora whānau
What an awesome school we have! I had the pleasure of showing around some new and prospective families throughout last week. It was so fantastic to walk around our school visiting classes and seeing not only great learning taking place but also getting that positive feeling of our amazing school culture everywhere we went.
I love coming to work and am privileged to be part of our awesome team here at Russell St!

SchoolStream App Update!!
We are looking forward to the new School Stream update being released on the Apple and Google Play Store this week. Please make sure you update the app when it’s released.
We already like our school app and this update is going to make it even better!
To get the most out of it though we recommend creating an account so you can easily manage the content the school sends through. To create an account, go to the side menu via the top-left corner and click on “Log-in”. This is a quick and easy process that will require your first and last name, and a mobile number, email, or Facebook account authorisation.
Once you have created your account, you will be able to access all of the new app features which will be highlighted in the welcome video.
We are all super excited to breath life back into this great initiative. For those of you who have been part of the RSS community for a while this is something we used to do back in the day to encourage as many people as possible to walk to school. Here is a basic break down of what it looks like… more info to come!
- Starts Wednesday August 22
- Teachers will wait at the corners of Russell and Featherston Streets from 8:30am.
- As students arrive or get dropped off at that location, teachers will begin walking back up Russell St to school and gather up any other children at the ‘bus stop’ corners of St John’s Ave, Stanley Ave, Rongopai St, Florence Ave, Tikoki St etc on the way back to school.
- The last ‘bus’ will leave the Featherston St corner around 8:45am.
- On arriving at school, students get their Walking Wednesday card clipped and once they have 5 clips they can enter into a prize draw.
That’s it – nice and simple – can’t wait for it to start!
Put this date in your diary! Tuesday September 25 (Week 10 – the last week of the term).
This is shaping up to be an exciting evening event starting around 5pm. It stems from our year long focus of our school value whakawhanaungatanga where we embrace positive relationships within our school and wider community.
More details to come but lock this date in now!
What makes you happy? – Video
Last week Troy wanted to find out what made everyone at Russell Street School happy. He loved hearing all the answers so whipped them up in a fun video. Remember, life is about being happy!
Play First, Eat Second
Thank you to those parents who provided feedback on this initiative. We are just letting you know that we are extending our trial to the end of Term 3 at which point we will go through another review cycle to confirm our future direction. Your thoughts are always welcome so feel free to chat with your child’s teacher or any of the leadership team regarding this area of school.
Just a reminder that school is closed on Wednesday August 15.
Please make sure you organise alternate care for your child/children under the supervision of an adult. Any of our learners staying at home by themselves is not an option!
Kelly Club are providing all day care so if you are stuck, get in touch with them.
Ngā mihi, have a great week!
