Dear Parents/ Caregivers

Welcome to Week 2.  I just thought I would give you a bit of a run down on some ‘need to know’ info. There are just a few things that have popped into my head over the last few days that will be helpful for you to know.

Swimming will start tomorrow – Wednesday 5th Feb. We will have swimming on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons. Please send your child to school with their togs and towel in a separate bag. Please name all items if possible. We will be getting changed in the classroom before swimming and then going to the pool with all our gear. We will then be getting changed at the pool after swimming at the end of the day. Children will take their school bags with them and you can collect them from here. If you want to arrive a bit early just meet us in the pool area. Come and hang out!

Library day is Tuesday. The children can issue two books and these go home for the week and get returned before our next session. Please encourage the children to put their books in their book bags when bringing them to and from school and keep them in a safe place at home. We have a library box in the classroom for returned books. The children can pop them into here anytime. They can also use the library at lunchtime during the week and can take their books back and get new ones themselves.

A few people have been asking about times for the school day.

8.30 am – Children come into the classroom before school. A bell rings at 8.30 to indicate this. Up until 8.30 the teachers will often be doing jobs and having little meetings etc. It is really nice for the children to hang out before the beginning of the day and it gives them time to do their little morning jobs (put their drink bottle inside the class, put their book bag in the box, write their name…play!)

8.55 am  -This is the start of the school day. A bell rings to indicate this. This is when the parents and children say goodbye to each other if they haven’t already.

10.30 – 10.50 –  Morning Tea/ Brunch – Children play in the playground

10.50 – 11.00 – Eating time – the whole school eats at the same time. We all sit with our class and eat together. I usually give the children about 15 minutes eating time.

12.35 – Lunchtime play.

1.15 – 1.25  – Eating time.

3.00 Hometime

Spare clothing: Please pop a set of spare clothing in your child’s bag as we do not have any spare clothing at school.

School Hats: All children must wear a RSS School hat when outside during Term 1 and 4. Please ensure your child’s hat is clearly named as they all look exactly the same and this can be a little problematic at times.

Thank you for bringing in your child’s stationery. I know a couple of you are still waiting for it to arrive so just pop it in to school when it does.

We have had a great start- your children are outstanding! We are working really hard on our value of whakawhanaungatanga – building friendships and positive relationships. We are also establishing lots of new routines and expectations around learning and playing together. Expect some tired little buttons at the end of the day! Plus it is very warm at the moment so I’m pleased we will have some cool relief in the pool.

If you have any questions, queries, concerns… please don’t hesitate to pop in and talk to me or e-mail me – [email protected]

Kind regards

Nicole
