Kia ora whānau,

Thank you all for your support this term. We have been able to develop such a beautiful culture and community within Waka Huia. We want to develop this even further next term and would love the children to share their culture to their friends. Over the holidays could you please start talking to your children about their culture and family journey. If you would like to come and visit our class at some point next term to share your family cultural, please email us. This would be a lovely way for all of our children to learn and experience cultures, but also to gain a deeper understanding of each other.

We would like the children to learn and know about their pepeha next term. A pepeha is a form of introduction that establishes identity and heritage. Could you please email us the below information to help us set up your child’s pepeha or if they already have learned one at their preschool that you wish them to carry on with email or bring it in.

The children would like to have a ‘Doctors Station’ in our classroom. If you have any connections and loose parts that might help develop this area of play please let us know.

Lastly, on the first day of Term 2 the school will be having a pōwhiri from 9-9.30am. If your child started school after the first day of term 1 and therefore did not have a welcoming pōwhiri, they will have theirs on this day. This is not just a time to welcome the children but also whānau. Monday 29th April is also Nicole offical first day in Waka Huia. It will be lovely have to her full time.

Have a lovely couple of weeks with your children.

Ngā mihi

Kelly and Nicole
