Mōrena Room 8 Whānau,

Welcome back to RSS for 2020! I hope everyone is having a beautiful weekend. I LOVED meeting with all of you last week and getting to know your gorgeous kids. Thank you so much for making the time to come along to one of our Kōrero Mai sessions and for sharing special info about your children with me.

Te Kupu o te Wiki/The Word of the Week: Kura – School, e.g. We’ve had a great first week back at kura!

Looking ahead to Week 2:

  • Swimming – The pool is still not ready, but of course we will update you when it is. Once the pool is good to go, our swim days will be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
  • Library day for us is Tuesday. This will mean we visit our library, learn from Rebecca (our librarian), issue and return books, and just generally enjoy spending time there each Tuesday. We are so lucky to have a beautiful and well-resourced school library.
  • Wednesday 5th Feb – Just for your info, I am out of the classroom this coming Wednesday but I will be on-site engaged in some professional learning. A reliever named Demelza will be in our classroom for the day and I will talk to the kids about this so they have a heads up. The children will remember Demelza as she taught classes in 2018 and 2019. It will be great to have her back at school, we are lucky to have her in Room 8.
  • Waitangi Day – Just a reminder that this coming Thursday, February 6th is Waitangi Day and therefore school is closed.

We have had a really wonderful couple of days together getting to know each other. We haven’t chosen a name for our class yet, but hopefully we will decide on one as a whānau (family) over the next week. Watch this space!

Enjoy your Sunday and I’ll see you all on Monday morning. See below for a few photos from our first 2 days.

Ngā manaakitanga,

Lucy

We played a game of Memory and before long nearly the whole class had joined in

Every day after lunch we spend 10 minutes doing yoga for children. The sessions end with laying on our backs – it is such a nice way to relax after a busy time playing outside. Lots of us find it so calming that we are almost asleep at the end!

Big smiles! Roll on Week 2!
