Kia ora koutou,

As a context of learning for this term we will once again be visiting Te Ahu A Turanga Marae in Woodville. As the marae is only able to accommodate a certain number, we have decided to go within our whānau this year.  We will travel to the marae on Monday 1st April, stay the night and return to school the following day by 3pm after walking the Gorge Loop track. As you can imagine this experience will be valuable to all of our children and give them an insight to life on a marae. Our children will be engaged in a number of activities on the marae. We will be responsible for preparing meals, setting tables, clearing and cleaning up. All valuable life skills! We will be welcomed by pōwhiri on Monday.

Attached to this letter is a form to apply to be a marae parent and health form.  Please fill this in carefully as we will be looking for parents with special qualities and skills to enhance the marae experience for our children.   All forms need to be completed by Monday 25th February.

The total price is yet to be confirmed. However, the tentative cost for our trip could be between $20 – $25 per senior student.  A significant portion of this is covered by the activity fee, although we are asking families to please contribute an additional $10-$15 to cover food, transport and overnight marae costs.

On Thursday the 28th March, we will be preparing our one main meal at school in the style of “Seed-to-Table”. If you are able to help us on this day, please email Bianca, Mel, Nic or John.

If you have any immediate queries, please see Nic, Bianca, Mel or John.
