Kia Ora Whānau,
Monday marked our last Play afternoon for the term and we certainly went out with a bang! These afternoons are really becoming the highlight for not just the tamariki, but also of the kaiako (teachers) too. We are thinking this is something that we might need to continue for the rest of the year because it aligns really nicely with all aspects of our School Vision of Empowering Agency, Innovation and Leadership.
By using play as our vehicle, our akonga (students) are Empowered by being given choice as to what they would like to do for their afternoon. They are demonstrating Agentic learning behaviours where they are managing themselves carefully in the space they are working in. Innovation is at the forefront here as each child is working creatively and leading their own learning. And lastly it is a great chance for them to show Leadership by helping out a buddy or even sharing expertise or knowledge they have about a certain topic.
On offer this week we had black paper, watercolour paints, chalk, crayons, boxes galore, sticks, blankets, sheets, pegs, plenty of coloured paper. Which room would you go to? Check out some of the choice as stuff we got up to below.
