Kia ora e te whānau,

Thank you for your patience while we are setting up our Literacy Programme.  We are beginning instruction with groups this week and I am delighted with the children I worked with today as they were very keen to learn and responsive.

This evening you will find some books chosen by your child in their  schoolbag.  I would really appreciate it if you could read at least one book to your child tonight and encourage them to read the others.  Your taking the time to share a book with your child is the single most important contribution you can make to your child’s success in literacy.

The children will be encouraged to exchange the books from the boxes in our room often but please feel free to come and have a look yourselves  and maybe choose some with your child.  As you will see they are tatty and well-loved and although your child may not be able to read them yet by the end of the year they will be surprised to find they can.

If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to come and see me.  We are all on the literacy journey together and we all have an equally  important role to play in your child’s success.

Ngā mihi,

Robin.
