Kia Ora e te whānau,

I hope you have all been enjoying the amazing weather we have had this week because the weather for this weekend and some of week 5 doesn’t look too hot!

House leader applications:

Thank you to the tamariki and their whānau for filling in the House leader Applications. We are currently in the process of reviewing the applications. Good Luck!!

Yummy Apple Stickers:

A huge thank you to the families who have been collecting yummy apple stickers. This year, we have been able to purchase $450 of new sports equipment.

Class Reports:

Here’s a link to this months class reports to the board. Thought you’d enjoy them too!

Reminders for the weeks ahead:

Ranginui Hui Monday 11th November 2019:

All ICAS certificates including ICAS Maths will be given out and celebrated at Ranginui hui. Nau Mai Haere Mai!

Korero Mai : This message is more of a Save the Date for 2020. This year we trialled ‘Meet the Learner’ before the school year started and we found it was a huge success with establishing Whakawhanaungatanga, however we found that the time we had it on was difficult for all whānau to come to. So for next year we have set aside 11.30am-7.30pm on the 28th January and 9-5pm on the 29th January 2020. Each child has a 20 minute slot to share 3 artefacts, talk about their learning goals for the year and get acquainted to their new space. These days are taken as school days and attendance will be compulsory for you and your child to attend on one of these days. The times will be available to book through www.schoolinterviews.co.nz from the end of the school year with the instructions in your child’s report envelope, along with who their next years teacher will be.

Sun Safe:
All of our learners need to be wearing a school hat when outside from now on.  If they do not have a hat they need to be sitting out on the top of the grandstand outside the staffroom.   Even if they are in the shade or under a shade sail they need a hat. Our school beanies are for Terms 2 and 3 – so this also doesn’t count as a sunhat :) So whānau can you please make sure your tamariki have a School Hat. You can purchase one from the lovely office ladies. They cost $15!
Thanks for promoting sun safety and right choices at RSS.

Being late to School:

This is just a reminder to whānau that School starts at 8.55am and if your child is late they need to let our lovely office ladies know as soon as they arrive. Don’t forget your child’s safety is paramount to us. This will also save time and phone calls home.

Important reminder – Yr 6 Graduation and The End Of Year Prize giving will be separated this year!!
Yr 6 Graduation – Thursday 12th Dec:
This year, graduation is going to be planned by the Y6’s, which has come about due to student voice. This makes for really authentic learning linked to our vision and is super exciting. This year, graduation will be held at our School (RSS) on Thursday 12th Dec after lunch from 12.45pm to 2.45 / 3pm. I will be facilitating this and any actions that come from the planning.  This space is going to look very different.  There are already some changes. The most significant thing for you to be prepared for is that the whole school will not be involved with the graduation for the whole time as in previous years – they will only be part of the beginning which will take about 30 / 45 mins. I will keep you updated along the way.  It always good to try new things and let the learners drive.
End Of Year Prize giving – Wednesday 13th Dec:
Prize giving will be on the Wednesday of Week 9 at 2pm in the hall! Prize giving will include presentations such as the Axcell Cup, Dean McKerras Cup, sports person of the year and a couple of new awards.
Woah, that was a lot of information and reminders whānau. Hope you all have a great weekend. Check out some of our koru art that we made out of math equipment!!
Ngā Mihi,
Rosie
