Kia ora whanau, we have had some queries in regards to packing and bags. It would be a good idea to pack the items required on the gear list in a separate bag to your child’s school bag or back pack. This way they will be able to take their back pack/school bag on the gorge walk with their drink bottle, morning tea, jacket and jersey inside. As long as sleeping bags are well named they are ok to be separate but if at all possible it would be best if they were also inside your child’s gear bag along with their pillow and sheet.
Please make sure your child brings along a weather proof jacket/coat as we are expecting some rain on Monday and Tuesday. The decision about if we go on The Gorge Loop Walk or not will be made Tuesday morning and we will notify you via School Stream if we are to return to school earlier than expected.
We recommend a larger than usual lunch for the first day with a full drink bottle of water.
For those of you joining us as our parent helpers, when we arrive at Te Ahu a Turanga marae we will be welcomed with a powhiri. There is tikanga that we need to observe. Gentlemen please wear covered shoes and long pants – no singlets please. Ladies please wear a skirt or dress which falls below the knee, covered shoes – no singlet tops or shoe string straps (a cardigan/kimono over these is fine).
We are looking forward to our time away. Any last minute questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
