Kia ora parents and whānau

The first week of school is behind us already. It was great to see everyone back at school and as usual all the children seem to have grown a few inches over the summer break. We welcomed 17 students into school on Tuesday and it has been great to see them all settle in to the RSS school community.

Surveys – Thank you to all of you who have already returned the Board surveys re School Uniform and Religious Education. You have until Feb 22 to return them but the sooner they come in the sooner we know what the next steps will be. If you have lost either of the forms, just pop into the school office and grab another.

Pool – The hot weather continues so it is great the pool should be all go for swimming this week. Ivan will test the water first thing Monday to check all is as it should be. Apologies for delays in this area but we have been at the mercy of the contractors! If it is all green for go we will flick a message out on School Stream letting you know when you can grab a pool key if you want one.

Enrolments. Know anyone turning 5 this year?– We have a rare occurrence where at this stage we only have 3 in zone 5 year olds pre-enrolled to start at Russell St in term 2. We need to know how accurate this number is and need your help to confirm. Do you have a child turning 5 this year? Are they pre-enrolled? Do you know anyone else turning 5 this year? A friend, neighbour, relative, tenant? Are they pre-enrolled? If so, please let the school know as soon as possible!

Road Patrol – It has been great to see our new road patrollers out on duty this past week gaining in confidence as they take on this important role. You may have noticed that in the mornings there are 3 patrollers on duty; 2 on the signs and 1 on the gate who also takes on the role of the official greeter. Our patrollers will rotate through these roles each week. Thanks road patrollers – you do an amazing job for our school!

Wellbeing Presentation for Parents – Don’t forget to pick up your free ticket to the presentation from the NZ Institute for Wellbeing and Resilience taking place on Feb 14 at 7pm. Grab them from the office now.

School Lunches – This continues as per last year on Friday through the Lunch Online service. Order before 9am Friday and your children will be all set for lunch that day.

Absences – Please remember to let the office know if your child is absent from school. If you know you will be away for an extended period e.g. overseas on holiday, please also ensure you let the office know directly to avoid any miscommunication.

‘I Tri’d the Tri’ – this series is starting up again on Monday the 11th of February. It runs for 5 consecutive weeks every Monday. This is a well run event by the Manawatū Triathlon Club and we are always one of the schools that has the most participants for our size and we want that to continue. More information and registration found here.

Board of Trustees Elections – A wee way off yet but this May/June the triennial Trustee elections will be held. Have you considered standing for this important role in running your school? If you need to know more have a look here http://www.trustee-election.co.nz/ or have a chat to any existing Trustees.

Thanks everyone, have an awesome week. Don’t forget that Wednesday is Waitangi Day and school is closed.
