The Summer Reading is a programme that promotes the enjoyment of reading, and this year it is celebrating its 22nd year! It involves children aged 4-10 years taking about and sharing with the Summer Reading
Team what they have been reading. The team will encourage children in their reading, while also providing some assistance to parents in terms of what the library can offer their families. Children earn rewards
during the programme and we finish off with a huge celebration party in the Esplanade.
This programme runs during December and January and is run at all our Community Living Rooms, and there is plenty of flexibility in the times that you can come in and see us. This year we are also offering
multi-lingual report options in Te Reo Māori, Chinese Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish, German, French, Korean, Thai, Portuguese, Russian, Tagalog, Farsi, Arabic, Nepalese, Karen, Hindi , Afrikaans, Burmese, Rohingya, Dari, Malay, Tamil, Bengali, Hausa, Yoruba, Indonesian, Urdu
Our iRead intermediate programme is for children aged 11-13 years, in this programme participants write short book reviews. For every 3 reviews they do, they are able to select one new book as a reward. This programme is operating at both Ashhurst and Central only.
