Morena 2Meke whānau,

I hope you all managed to get out and enjoy the sunshine over the weekend.

I would just like to say a big congratulations to 2Meke and Pīwakawaka for their performance in assembly last week.  It is quite a big deal just to get up on a stage – let alone sing up there!  Thanks to those who made it to support us and if you didn’t catch it, I have put it on Seesaw.

Thanks to those of you that have brought in new ‘Everyday books’ for your tamaiti (child).  Keep them coming.  I have discovered that you don’t have to get them from Office Max (which is closed on the weekends), they sell them at Whitcoulls and Paperplus too.

Class photos – the school photos will be taking place next week over Tuesday and Wednesday.  Our class photo will be on Wednesday 22nd but your child may be in other photos on Tuesday 21st.  A paper order form went home last week.

-This week I will be using our reading time to undertake reading assessment with our tamariki so don’t panic if they don’t bring a book home to read.  They can read anything from home that is of interest to them and just fill in the reading log with the title of whatever they have read.   Any reading is good reading.

-Today is our Papatūānuku (junior school) play afternoon.

-Tuesday is music with Jenny.

-On Wednesday school will be closed due to teacher strike action.

-Thursday is our library day.

-On Friday we get together with our big buddies and they have been teaching us maths games.  2Meke have been really enjoying this.

Next week (wiki 5) I would like to do a mini inquiry into ‘Our Names’.  We will be learning how to write our full names (including middle names) and I would also like them to share some information about their name to the class.  Sometime over the next week, could you please help your child write down some information about their name and how they got it i.e. is it a family name? Is it from a book/movie? Does it have special meaning?  In case you were wondering, my first name is from a novel that my mother was reading while she was pregnant with me.

Have a fabulous week and feel free to contact me any time with any queries.

Ngā mihi, Demelza
