2020 Year 5/6 Camp Makahika

Camp Newsletter #1 • Russell Street School •  18th October 2019

Kia Ora e te whānau,

We are very excited to inform you that our Year 5 & 6 camp in 2020 will be held at Camp Makahika, Levin. This will be a 2 and a half day, 2 night camp.  We have heard many positive experiences about this camp and look forward to going (http://www.makahika.co.nz/)

This year camp letters will be posted directly onto School Stream, but if you want a printed version of these letters please let your child’s teacher know.

Our camp will be held in Term 2 from Monday 4th May – Friday 8th May 2020. This year, we will be taking two groups, one from Monday to midday Wednesday and one from Wednesday to midday Friday. There will be approximately 105 children, 4 teachers and 21 whānau members attending. We will be holding an information evening about camp in Week 3 on Thursday 31 October from 3:30pm to 4.30pm in the staffroom.

If you wish to be considered as a camp parent, forms will be available at the meeting.  Please fill this in carefully as we will be looking for parents with special qualities and skills to enhance the camp experience for our children. If you are selected as a camp parent, it will also be subject to a full police vetting check in line with our school policy and procedure.

Not all parents who apply will be selected as the adult student ratio needs to be closely monitored. Any parent who wishes to visit us during the day is more than welcome to join us, but please note that there is a small cost. Parents who visit during the day can also join us for meals, but we would need to know this prior to May 1st for catering purposes (and a small charge for meals – set by Camp Makahika – also applies).

The cost for our camp has not been finalised yet but we intend on getting this to you as soon as possible. The camp is fully catered and the cost will cover meals, accommodation and activities. If you wish to begin payments for camp by making regular contributions over the term, please contact Ag who will organise this with you.
