Kia Ora whanau mā,

This week, I have the pleasure of writing our pānui about the RSS values and what’s coming up in Week 7 at our awesome school.

At RSS, we have 10 values that we are aiming for, not just in our academic learning but in all that we do. Whakawhanaungatanga is one of those values and having positive relationships and keeping strong connections with our whānau is important to us.

So we have put together the following table which has the meaning in English and a simplified version of the value next to it (made by Lucy) to clarify understanding for our younger tamariki and their whānau. Please make yourself familiar with them, so if you hear your tamariki talking about them at home, you know what they mean and you can support them with their understanding.

Hautūtanga – Leadership (Be a role model)
Wairua – Spirit and Determination (Try hard)
Rekareka – Fun and Enjoyment (Have fun!)
Manaakitanga – Care and Respect (Be kind and help others)
Whakawhanaungatanga – Positive Relationships (Be a kind friend)
Ngākau Tapatahi – Integrity (Do the right thing)
Panekiretanga – Excellence (Be your best)
Kawenga – Responsibility (Look after our school and class)
Kotahitanga – Unity and Inclusion (Join in)
Motuhaketanga – Self-awareness (Look after ‘you’)

Reminders for the week

RSS Book Fair – Friday dress up as your favourite book character was fantastic. The children and the teachers looked amazing. It was a great opportunity for us to show our School Values of ‘Whakawhanaungatanga’ building positive relationships and ‘Rekareka’ – Fun and Enjoyment! Check out these photos from Friday! Don’t forget the book fair ends this Tuesday 4th September 2018, so be in quick if you haven’t grabbed your favourite book yet.

Absences –  We realise that winter brings a range of nasty bugs, colds and flu like symptoms, that keep our tamariki at home. Sometimes they are home for more than one day. It is very important that you contact the School office every day that your child is absent. Our lovely office ladies are ready and waiting for your call. Please contact them by ringing 063586671, emailing office@russellst.school.nz or even going on School Stream.

Walking Wednesday –  Continues this week. Last week, it was great to see the sun shining and the faces smiling as the walking buses approached every corner. Let’s keep up the wonderful work whanau! Remind our tamariki to bring their cards so they can get them clicked. Once they get 5 clicks on their card, they will put it in our prize box and we will be drawing out lucky individuals at our assembly or school singing afternoons. See you this Wednesday!

Car Parking – We understand that it can be hard getting a park at RSS, but if you park on the yellow lines it makes it very difficult for the children to see if it’s safe to cross the road and for cars to see our tamariki crossing the road. Just a friendly reminder to anyone who is parking on the yellow lines, especially on the corners of Rongopai and Russell St, can you please think of our children’s safety and park where there are no yellow lines.

DanceNZMade – This Friday 7th Sept, RSS have a group of children (lead by Dean and Chantelle) who will be at the Regent for the DanceNZMade competition. All children attending have been given a permission slip, please return this slip to the office asap. Here is their schedule for the day:
