Kia ora whānau ma,

Hoping you have all had a restful long weekend and enjoyed the extra day and the sunshine that we were lucky to have.

We are just in the process of chasing up the last of the parents/students who still haven’t signed our updated Digital Citizenship agreement. This has replaced the previous booklet that used to go home at the start of every year. Thank you to those of you who have filled this out already. It is now to be done entirely online (quite fitting really?) and you can do this here if you haven’t done so.

There may have been some confusion for a few about school on Friday just gone. On a term dates post on our website last year, there was mention of a ‘proposed’ Teacher Only day, as traditionally we have had one on the Friday before Queens Birthday. We’ve decided to have this on the Tuesday after Labour Weekend instead (23rd October) if you want to pop that on your calendar now or check out ours.

We had the whole staff from Westmere School in Wanganui visit on Friday. The feedback from them was extremely positive and one piece that was noticed by all was how confident our kids are at talking about their learning and their next steps. This was evident from our youngest learners who have just started their schooling journey right through to those who have had six years of education at RSS. #soproud

Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon I’ve been working with a bunch of top notch mathematicians from the Ranginui Team in preparation for Mathex which is next Term in Week 3. It’s great to being part of the ‘cognitive grind’ with these kids and they just love being challenged. Think you can hang with the Algebro’s? Solve this question and we might let you:
468123456 x 5 + 468123456 x 15 + 12 x 468123456 + 3 x 468123456 + 65 x 468123456 =

This Friday marks the end of our Massey Teachers time with us. A special thanks to Emma, Karin and Tracey, I know you will have learnt so much from teaching alongside Kelly, Samantha and Nic. Thank you for all you have contributed to the learners in Waka Huia, The Hive and 4Team. We know they will miss you! All the best for your final placement next term.

Upcoming events this week and next week that are of interest:
-Full School Assembly is on this Wednesday in the hall at 1.50pm. We’d love to see you all there. The bar was set pretty high last time!
-The 40 Hour Famine is on this weekend. Well done to all participating and joining in on this great cause. 5.30pm this Friday for those doing the quilt making with Joy.
-ICAS Spelling Exam is next Monday 11th June. Good luck to those who are involved. Thanks Suz for all your work leading this.
-Interschool X-Country is next Wednesday 13th June. ‘Train Hard and Go Hard’ to the team of 20 kids who are representing RSS by doing that gutsy run at Dransfields Farm in Kahuterawa.
-Pae Tamariki is next Thursday 14th/Friday 15th June at the Regent. Ka mau te wehi tamariki ma! (Awesome kids!) You always leave the rest of the Manawatu in awe of your wairua!

Have a fantastic week everyone.

Ngā Mihi Mahana,
Troy

PS Those other Warriors went up 2-0 today against the Cavs in the NBA Finals. If you’re a fan, I’m always keen for some NBA Banter.
