Kia ora whānau ma,

Wishing a fantastic and restful Mothers Day to all the amazing Mums out there! Hoping your families make you feel the love today! (Even though every day should be Mothers Day…)

A couple of key updates for you all. Firstly, we are sad to announce that the fantastic Fiona will be leaving us at the end of this term to go off on an adventure with her husband Pete. She has won a teaching position at an International School in Saudi Arabia which commences next term. Although Fiona will be missed dearly, what an exciting opportunity for them both! No doubt we will keep updated on her Escapades in the Middle East.

Secondly, we can officially announce that Demelza Darby will be taking on the co-teaching role in 2Meke with Carolyn, working every Friday for the rest of the term. Demelza was one of the Massey Masters Teachers that we had based with us last year, so a perfect person to slot in to our fantastic staff as she knows the ‘Ways of the RSS Ninja.’

On Wednesday our lovely Lucy has her Graduation at the Regent. This recognises the completion of the intensive learning she has undertaken in the Massey Masters of Education programme. To highlight Lucy’s commitment to her studies, she was also chosen as the valedictorian speaker, what an honour, Koia kei a Lucy! (You’re the Bomb) The Māori whakataukī or proverb ‘Poipoia te kakano kia puawai’ comes to mind here. It translates to mean ‘Nurture the seed and it will blossom’ All the best for your special day!

Thank you for your ongoing feedback about our ‘Play First, Eat Second’ adjustment to our day. We realise that for some learners it is taking some time to get used to, but it is important to realise that it is a trial for this term and we are interested in hearing your thoughts about it.

Great to see so many sports teams representing RSS with pride as all of our Winter codes are kicking off. Thanks to all our coaches and supporters who give up their time to foster a love of sport and being active. Our tamariki are grateful for all you do!

Upcoming events this week that are of interest:
-RSS Supporters Club Meeting on Tuesday at 7.30pm in the Staffroom. All welcome!
-Support Staff Day is on Wednesday. A day to recognise the amazing support staff team we have at school! Please show your appreciation to them :)

*Wednesday 30th May (Not until Week 5) is our School Cross Country. The whole school will be involved at Skoglund Park this year. We aim for a 10.30am start, but more details about specific year group race times etc will come out later.

Have an awesome week everyone.

Ngā Mihi Mahana,
Troy

PS No update on the Warriors today, still a little sore from last nights drumming.
