Tēnā Koutou Whānau,
We are 8 weeks down in a massive first term, but we’re letting the good times roll with our visit from ERO (The Education Review Office) happening tomorrow and the upcoming Easter break at the end of the week!
In other schools that I have taught in, the week that ERO come to visit creates a bit of stress, tension and anxiety for staff. But at Russell Street School, the vibe is very different as it’s ‘business as usual’ so to speak. We encourage and welcome our friends from the review team to come and see the uniqueness we bring and hope that they can give us some guidance or recommendations as to how we can make our school an even better place for all. I’m extremely proud of our school and can’t wait to show it off to them!
Last week brought some laughs as it was the first time that a Turkey visited our school! Not something you hear about too often, but I hope it enlivened your dinner conversations, as even animal control was brought in to retrieve it and find its rightful home!
On Thursday, we unveiled our latest School Mural on the cloak bay outside Room 10 and it looks simply amazing! It was great to have former students Max, Azahra, Charlotte, Emma and Maria come back from their Intermediate Schools to do this for us. Carolyn did a stellar job empowering these students to create a legacy item for our school based on the Key Competencies from the NZ Curriculum.
Thanks for your support last week with the early closure of our school for the NZEI union meeting on Thursday. Some positive outcomes for all should be coming from these meetings across NZ at the moment.
Upcoming events this week that are of interest:
-The Purple Hero Day tomorrow for Epilepsy. (Encourage your child to wear as much Purple as possible and optional gold coin donation)
-Interschool Road Race on Tuesday at the Esplanade.
-Interschool EPro8 Science and Technology Challenge on Wednesday at College Street School.
-Northern Cluster Swimming on Thursday at Freyberg Pools.
-School is closed on Friday 30th March and reopens Wednesday 4th April for Easter.
Have a fantastic week ahead and a safe and happy Easter break,
Ngā Mihi Mahana,
